A seven strong squad of Banbridge swimmers including Cameron McDonald, Robert Lyttle, Esmée Hall, Georgia Davies, Poppy Robinson, Jane Kilpatrick and Jodi Doyle made the journey to Limerick to compete in the Irish Age Group Division 2 Championships, for the first time in the history of the club. Competition for the girls in the 11/12 Age Group was intense with over 90 swimmers competing in key events. All Banbridge swimmers did themselves proud with a host of outstanding PB’S highlighting with Cameron, Robert and Esmée all making 100M finals and Cameron claiming gold in the boys 13/14 200M Backstroke and Esmée claiming bronze in the girls 11/12 100M Butterfly and Gold in 400M IM, with both swimmers achieving Div 1 times during the event.
The girls 11/12 Medley relay consisting of Poppy Robinson, Jane Kilpatrick, Esmée Hall and Jodi Doyle made the final and did well amongst strong competition. The freestyle relay consisting of Jodi Doyle, Georgia Davies, Jane Kilpatrick ( as replacement for Poppy Robinson following an injury in the spectators gallery) and Esmée Hall, went into the final seeded 7th and gave all to just miss out on the medals in a very credible fourth place.
Many thanks to David Stronge acting coach for the Banbridge Squad for motivating the team and ensuring the event was a most successful and enjoyable experience for all
Well done to our Teletots squad for a fantastic swim off against Bangor and Breifne on Friday night. Head Coach Geraldine Hill was delighted with the performance of every swimmer and we can now look forward to a second year of competition in Teletots Section 1.

Over the last couple of weeks we’ve had some fantastic success starting with a host of medals and trophies from the PTL end of season gala with our Group B squad winning Division 2 by a clear margin and Group A finishing as runners up (pic of Group B swimmers with their trophy & Group A with the Runners Up pennant). Last night at the long awaited Banbridge & District Junior Sports Awards Esmée Hall picked up the runner’s up trophy in the Female Youth Category, which was hotly contested by 7 fantastic shortlisted finalists and our brilliant Teletots Squad were named as the Banbridge Junior Team of the Year. Robert, Jenny, Megan, Esmée, Poppy and Jodi were on hand to collect the team award. This is outstanding recognition for our swimmers and their coaches. Well done and congratulations to all and many thanks to Banbridge District Council and event sponsors Shoeflair & Intersport for a truly enjoyable evening.

A Good Effort
Our Teletots squad put a good effort into the home gala against Templemore on Saturday night but the ability of Belfast’s largest swimming club proved too much and Banbridge had to endure a loss of 214 points to 146. As ever there were many great performances on the night and this week it was Daniel Kilpatrick and the Group A boys who put up most resistance to the visiting side. Daniel had two fantastic wins in Breaststroke and Freestyle and teammate Harry Farson was on hand to pick up first place in Butterfly. Not to be overshadowed by little brother Daniel, Jane Kilpatrick also had a super Breaststroke swim to allow Group D girls to secure maximum points in this event. Our next teletots gala will be home against Breifne on Saturday 26th March.
March Swimmers of the Month
Conor Morgan and Fionnuala Loy are the new Swimmers of the Month.
Bangor Open Success
Congratulations to all swimmers who participated in the Bangor Open Gala on Sunday. It was great to see Jenny Wilson back in action in open competition, and swimming well, after a period of absence owing to injury. Megan McKenna started the day in silver medal position in 100M Freestyle with a Division 1 qualifying time, and was back on the podium in the afternoon with a bronze in 100m Butterfly. Caolan Quinn, and one of the youngest competitors on the day, Eunan Quinn were both representing the club and swam well, especially Eunan age 9 who achieved 18th place in the Boys 11 and under category, in 100m Breaststroke. Jodi Doyle had a fantastic silver medal in 100M Breaststroke and a very impressive Backstroke swim to achieve a massive PB. Georgia Davies and Jane Kilpatrick were both swimming very well and were just outside the medals in the 11 years Group where Esmée Hall had a great day to secure an impressive 2 silver and three bronze medals. Well done to all.
Last PTL Gala
Banbridge PTL squad made the long journey to Coleraine for the last Division 2 gala of the season. As ever our Group A & B swimmers were in outstanding form with a clean sweep of wins for Jodi Doyle for Group A girls and a fantastic four wins for Group A Boy’s Patrick McNiff, who is achieving his best success of the season to date. For Group B Megan McKenna also achieved a superb five wins on the night. Unfortunately the success of Group’s A & B again was not enough to rescue the squad from defeat and Coleraine won by 590 points to 554 for Banbridge.

Teletots meet Lisburn
Well done to all who participated in the away Gala at Lisburn on Sunday 7th February. In Division 1 we have come to expect the stiffest of competition and neighbouring club Lisburn did not disappoint as they clinched a win of 232 v 168 for Banbridge. We did have a number of exceptional individual performances from Group A with two wins from up and coming 7 year old superstar Lois Lyttle as well as two wins for Harry Farson who was also in great form. Where Group D did not have any 1998 Boys on the night Team Captains Esmée Hall and Poppy Robinson were most ably supported by Group C Boys Michael Rafferty, Adam Bell and William Campbell and Esmée also managed three super individual wins amongst very strong competition. Esmée & Poppy pictured with medals from the Irish Schools Championships.
Masters Success
Banbridge Coach and Swimmer Paul McCambridge was in winning form at the recent City of Derry Masters event as he succeeded in bringing home a host of medals after returning to competitive swimming last year. Paul took bronze in 50M Freestyle, Silver in 100M Freestyle and a fantastic 3 gold medals in 50 & 100M Backcrawl and 100M IM. Hopefully Paul’s success will inspire our younger swimmers competing in the weekend’s Ulster Graded Gala. Good luck to all.

Guinness World Record Attempt
To all strong swimmers, a Guinness World Record Attempt is taking place in Camlough Lake starting on the 9th of Sept 2009 to run until the target distance is reached which is 500kilometers. It is thought it will probably take around 9-10 days to complete. The event is a relay swim and is continuous through day and night and will need as many experienced open water swimmers as possible to take part in order to reach the target and break the existing record. An age limit of 14 years and older has been put in place however a younger swimmer who is deemed competent by the event committee may apply to take part and will be assessed prior to the event. A rota of swimmers will be drawn up to cover the time frame. Swimmers who would like to take part must be able to swim 1500 metres under 40 minutes. The event will be launched in Carrickcruppen Football Club on the 1st Sept at 7pm and registration will take place on the night or alternately email camloughworldrecord@yahoo.co.uk for registration and more details
